CAF Executive Committee member and former African Footballer of the Year Kalusha Bwalya could not contain his delight at the decision of the CAF Executive Committee to award the hosting rights for the African Youth Championships to Zambia. Bwalya, who is also the President of the Football Association of Zambia, was delighted at the decision and personally thanked the CAF President and Hall of Famer Issa Hayatou for the faith in his country.
“It is an important moment in the history of Zambia, to have been chosen to host such a big tournament. Kudos to everyone”, he said. “I think the reports of the success we recorded in hosting the recent COSAFA Championships must have strengthened our position and reinforced CAF’s faith in our country and the administration of football, that we can do it”.
Zambia is also looking to register a bid to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and Kalusha believes very strongly that the Under-20 championships of 2017 will be an ideal stepping stone for a successful hosting of AFCON in 2019.
